The Industry of Whaling

By the middle of the 19th century, America was the center of the whaling industry, and whaling was one of the largest and most important industries in America. Whaling vessels were a floating combination of factory and warehouse, capable of prolonging voyages for 3 years or longer, and not only capturing whales but also processing their oil and storing it for the duration of a voyage.
