The Eunice H. Adams

The Eunice H. Adams was a brig, built in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1845. Over the course of 50 years at sea the vessel took part in over a dozen Atlantic whaling voyages, operating nearly continuously from 1865 until it was broken up in 1896. Like most whaling vessels of the period, it featured a trywork on the deck, in which blubber cut from the whale was heated to separate out the oil, which was stored in barrels below decks. 

For years at a time the ship also served as the home for the crew, in the case of the Eunice H. Adams, approximately 20 crew members over the course of a three-year voyage.
